Common Pulses

BOZOMAG is pleased to announce, “Common Pulses”, an exhibition of works on paper by Nevena Prijic. The show will open on Friday, November 25th at BOZO Pasadena at 595 E. Colorado Blvd., Suite 311, Pasadena CA 91101. An opening reception will be held from 5-8PM on Friday, November 25th.

The idea for each painting I make, starts and develops on paper first, as a drawing. Drawing as a medium has a certain transparency and intricacy which allows me to represent organic forms as well as machine-like components, thanks to the precision of sharp, graphite lines. The way I paint, using thin, liner brushes, has roots in drawing, where the direction of the lines describe the movement of the form. These overlapping lines also allow for each layer underneath to be visible. Negative space is painted with matte, flashe colors, which then defines the final form of the figure.“  — Nevena Prijic

Born in Belgrade, Serbia, where she lived until 2017, Nevena Prijic draws on Neolithic archeological history and the connection between biological life and machines. Nevena’s compositions lie halfway between figuration and abstraction. Figurines, inspired by Vinca culture, are modified to the point that they appear like “cyborg” creatures from a post-human world.
