"Of the Puppyman’s real motivations it is possible to say little. And best to say nothing. Given his position. For we have all felt it. All thought at one moment or another the fateful thought: that all Puppymen are alike, all, at bottom, are the same, to the point of being indistinguishable, all one Puppyman we are all one Puppyman, deep down, you have thought it, we are one. And yet you have also thought, I know the Puppyman, I would recognize him anywhere, for I have seen him at his dark and debonair business. Sitting. So obedient. Such a good boy."
