Barely Fair 2024

Annie Pendergrast

BOZOMAG is excited to participate in the fourth annual BARELY FAIR in Chicago, Illinois this year! Operated by the Julius Caesar artist collective and hosted at the Color Club, this miniature art fair presents works at 1:12 scale. Exhibitors share a tiny peek of their programming inside 20 x 20 inch booths, arranged in rows like a standard art fair.

This year, BOZOMAG will exhibit a 14 x 18 inch painting by Annie Pendergrast.

The fair is on view from April 12th to April 21st, with an opening to be held on Friday, April 12th from 6-10PM.

BOZOMAG is pleased to introduce an exhibition containing a single painting by Annie Pendergrast, a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Los Angeles, California.

Pendergrast’s work, entitled “Sunblock Flowers” explores playful acknowledgements to chalky, gradients, while hinting at a coy reminder of the consistent need for SPF in our mutual home of sunny Southern California. Gradient hues of chromatic exploration, milky like the best sunscreen, intermingle with futuristic, digitized flora that’s too perfect for this material realm.

The paintings are simultaneously indicative of regional iconography while drawing inspiration from Hard-Edge painters and Chicago Imagists. Painted horizontal inclinations are articulated meticulously by hand suggesting a scene caught between futurism and naturalism. Painting in a place where digital meets organic matter, Pendergrast imagines a future where plants morph with technology as the collective “we” formulate solutions for a sustainable, symbiotic future.
